More than a dozen African athletes including a number of Sierra Leoneans who disappeared while competing in the recent Commonwealth Games in Australia have been told to hand themselves in or leave the country before they are caught.
The competitors from Cameroon, Uganda, Rwanda and Sierra Leone all disappeared from their accommodation on the Gold Coast - some without even competing. Their visas ran out on 15th May, 2018.

The new Minister of Sports, Mr. Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, has assured the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) of his government and ministry continued support and partnership towards the development of sports in the country.
“SWASAL is not new to me.I want to assure you and make a commitment that our government through my ministry will continue our relationship with you and the good marriage between us will continue stronger," Nyelenkeh said during a courtesy call by SWASAL on Wednesday, 16th May 2018, at his office at Bishop House in Freetown.
