He explained that research show that the virus known as Chikungunya is spread to people through the bite from an infected mosquito and its most common symptoms are fever, joint pain, headache, muscle pain, rash among others.
According to Dr. N’jai they have been working on the research since 2014 during the Ebola epidemic, adding that they have found out a lot about Ebola and why some people did not die despite being infected.
“We have also known how to develop new drugs or vaccines for Ebola,” Dr. N’jai said and disclosed that they have also discovered that the Chikungunya Virus which is more deadly than the Ebola virus as 30 percent of the country’s population is already infected by it.
Rift Valley Fever Virus according to Dr. N’jai is found mostly in cows. He said this emerged from the samples from Ramsey Laboratory and the 34 Military Hospital from cows in Waterloo.
Dr. N’jai further said that the Zika Virus can cause abnormality in the brain’s development of children. He maintained that this virus can also cause economic loss for cattle farmers and is deadly on human beings.
Dr. N’jai disclosed that some of the causes of this virus are from genetic and weak human immune system, adding that people with strong genetics can survive it.
This virus, according to Dr. N’jai is very similar to Yellow Fever and that its symptoms have been confusing people with malaria and typhoid because they are similar.
