1 Remanded Over Le36M Equipment Stolen at AYV

An accused Foday Bangura who allegedly conspired with other persons unknown to steal radio and television studio equipment worth thirty six million, one hundred and sixty thousand leones has on Tuesday 9th January 2018, appeared before Magistrate Albert Moody of Court No. 1, on Siaka Steven Street in Freetown.

 

The accused is charged with multiple offences ranging from conspiracy to commit a crime to office breaking, contrary to section (26) sub section (1) of the larceny act of 1916 of the laws of Sierra Leone.

 

Police alleged that the accused, Foday Bangura connived with unknown individuals to broke and entered into the offices of the African Young Voices Media Empire at Hill in Freetown, and carted away with radio and television studio equipment between 6 December 2017 and 16 December 2017.

 

The charge sheet further indicated that the items stolen are physical cash of four million five hundred and sixty thousand leones, one techno mobile phone valued one million five hundred thousand leones, two dell desk top monitor valued two million leones, one dell lap top with special transmitter java soft ware valued five million leones, one I- Pac machine with ninety six hours of work of TV content valued twenty million, five hundred thousand leones.

 

Police also alleged the accused again connived with his co- accomplice to broke into the programme office of the said media institution and carted away with one forty two inches plasma television valued three million leones, one I Pac valued four million, five hundred sixty thousand leones, all to the total valued of thirty six million, one hundred and sixty thousand leones, property of the management of African Young Voices media Empire.

 

The accused Foday Bangura was arrested on 27 December 2017 by a detective police constable 15105 Sesay M and was later brought to court on Thursday 4 January 2018 where charges were preferred against him in connection to the property worth over thirty six million leones stolen at the African Young Voices Media Empire.

 

This medium can authoritatively confirmed that personnel attached to the Criminal Investigation Department headquarter on Pademba road in Freetown have obtained statements from fifteen staff members of the African Young Voices including private security guards manning the building, and they are expected to give testimony in respect of the matter before the court.

 

It could be recalled that this is third time the African Young Voices Media institution have been looted by thieves, much to the chagrin, annoyance and discomfort to the management, Board of Directors  and the Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Leone’s biggest and the most advanced media industry called,  Africa Young Voices Media Empire.

 

Furthermore, the presiding Magistrate Albert Moody has urged the prosecuting to bring forward their witnesses for a speedy trial and adjourned the matter to Friday 19 January 2018.
