Parliamentarians have on Wednesday 29th May, 2019 concluded their deliberations into the president’s State Opening of Parliament address delivered several weeks ago.
The Leader of the NGC party, Alhaji Dr. Kandeh Yumkella MP, commended President Bio for the detailed speech he delivered to Parliament, which he said took “four arduous hours”, suggesting that it should be truncated in future to save time and the detailed copy be circulated for the consideration of Members of Parliament.
Yumkella said he could not agree more with President Bio, when he said that the necessary space must be created for the Diasporas to participate in Sierra Leone’s democratic process, by being able to vote from outside of the country during elections.
Mamadi Ngobeh Kamara – set to transform Sierra Leone

One of Sierra Leone’s finest female journalists and women’s rights advocate, Mamadi Ngobeh Kamara, yesterday, Thursday 30th May, 2019 successfully sailed through Parliament and can henceforth be comfortably addressed as Deputy Minister of Information and Communications.
Statistics Sierra Leone (SSL) Statistician general, Professor Osman Sankoh has informed journalists about the progress, achievements and challenges facing the SSL since he took up office.
Speaking on Wednesday 29th May, 2019, Prof. Sankoh that in collaboration with global development partners such as Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) the SSL garnered support for research activities; worked with Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD) and the Africa Regional Data Cube (ARDC) and also with UNFPA, World Bank, USAID, Global Fund, CDC, UNICEF, UNDP, and DFID – support for SLIHS, MICS 6 launch, DHS, Capacity Strengthening activities among other interventions.
CAA International (CAAi), the technical cooperation arm of the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA), is to assist the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) to strengthen its regulatory oversight capability.
Financed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) SAFE Fund, CAAi will help the SLCAA resolve its safety-related deficiencies in several target areas including, air navigation services, aerodromes and ground aids. The project will also optimise the organisational design of SLCAA to improve its oversight effectiveness.
Six accused persons have been docked before Hon. Justice Monfred Sesay presiding over the High Court of Sierra Leone for allegedly committing capital offences.
The six accused persons are, Sylvester Fonnie, Alhaji Koroma, Sheik Mohamed Koroma, David Ashimie Cole, Sheka Lahai and Lovetta Maxmela Cole.
According the Charge Sheet, the six accused persons allegedly conspired with other persons unknown to murder Mohamed Kabba Kargbo on Sunday 9th April 2017 at Metchem Compound, Goderich along the Freetown –Peninsular Road.

ACC boss - Francis Ben Kaifala; ready to wash Salone off corruption

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has revealed that it has entered into a settlement agreement with Sama Sesay, Abdul Mohamed Kargbo and Joseph Conteh, Revenue Officers of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) attached to the Immigrations Department, to repay the sum of Three Hundred Million Leones (Le300,000,000), representing the full amount they had been investigated for.
Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health Dr Amara Jambai has said during a two day training workshop for leadership and management training organised by China CDC in collaboration with MOHS has said China has been of immense help to Sierra Leone in the health sector.

As Sierra Leone joins the world in the celebration of World Menstrual Day, the Hawa Trust Foundation, a non-government organization that works with children, women and youth in the Bombali district together with Marion Tee Koroma and the Bombali District Council has organized a training for 20 schools at the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) Hall.
The training was held on the topics: “Why considering mental hygiene as important, what is menstruation, health problems related to poor mental hygiene, how women and girls can keep themselves healthy during their period among others.

Njala University is taking a new approach to learning with a focus on technology and innovation in Sierra Leone. Leaders at the university say that if graduates do not have the skills to match emerging job market opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, the institution would be failing its students and not be fit for purpose. At an academic seminar at the University's Mokonde campus, Dr. Maurice Sesay, Acting Head of Physics & Computer Science laid out a plan for how computational thinking, connectivity, andcoding can be used to prepare students for 21st Century jobs. The Sierra Leone Premier League Board has today presented trophies for the 2018/2019 Premier League to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio at a meeting held at State House.
Chairman of the Premier League Board, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, said they were meeting with the President to formally present to him the premier league trophies courtesy of the fact that the Premier League Board got substantial support from the Government, out of which they were able to organize the league as well as procure the trophies. Ernest Bai Koroma: Not under any house arrest as alleged

The former President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma is not under house arrest. This is according to inside sources at the former president’s office in Makeni.
Malicious and politically motivated rumor had it that, the former president had been placed under house arrest following his non-appearance or failure to honor the invitation to attend the Bintumani III Conference in Freetown.
A very reliable source informed AYV that the former president of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma is well guarded at his Makeni residence and anywhere and everywhere he decides to go, adding that, the former president and his wife did not attend the Bintumani III Conference because they have a relative that was bereaved, whose relatives the both of them owe a lot to.
