He added that this objective has been achieved and that the duo did a tremendous job which was felt and seen all around through the manner in which AYV covered the 2018 elections; which had never been seen before in the history of radio and television broadcasting in this country.
He heaped praise upon praise on Mr. Tony Lungaho and Angela Angweli for their tireless efforts in transferring their knowledge and skills to Sierra Leoneans to enable them maintain the momentum once their contract is completed.
Thunderous applause followed thunderous applause as Ambassador Navo catalogued the series of successes and firsts scored by AYV through the tireless and ingenious efforts of both Mr. Tony Lungaho and Angela. He wished them well in their future endeavors and hoped that staff inculcated all the experience and knowledge they could extract from the two foreign professional who were at AYV for a little over one year.
Introducing the new team of managers, Ambassador Navo stated that over the years Sierra Leoneans have been described as unfit or incapable of managing profitably and professionally any big enterprise. He added that this notion was bandied about as reality after the appointment of Tony and Angela. He said tongues wagged and lots were said that it was because he had little or no confidence on Sierra Leoneans to manage the AYV was the reason he recruited international managers.
“Being an ardent believer in the potential of Sierra Leoneans especially youth, I can now challenge that notion by appointing capable, qualified and very experienced Sierra Leoneans to take AYV forward from the point Tony and Angela are leaving us,” Ambassador Navo told his audience.
He then proceeded to announce the new management team which comprises of the following experienced and qualified individuals that have been serving AYV impeccably over the years:
Managing Director Dr. E.K Duramany-Lakkoh, Dep. Managing Director Bridgette Darlton-Sesay (Mrs.), Operations Director Samuel Wise Bangura, Deputy Operations Director (I) Antonia Howard, Deputy Operations Director (II) Patricia Conteh and Abdul Fonti Kabia Director of Communications and Quality Assurance.
Ambassador Navo pointed out however that all these positions are in acting capacity in addition to the positions they already hold until such a time they would be substantive pending successful completion of a three months’ probation period.
He mentioned in passing that other positions such as Head of Newspaper held by Aruna Turay, Head of Radio manned by DJ Base among other positions remain the same. He reiterated that as a believer in the potential of Sierra Leoneans especially youth, he has no doubt that with the collaboration and cooperation of all staff, in addition to the inputs the company would be getting from Tony and Angela once in a while, the AYV Media Empire will climb to higher height. He also mentioned that AYV would shortly hire the services of a training consultant. The training consultant, he said, is important in that he intends to maximize the experience and knowledge imparted to local staff by the out-gone broadcasting professionals from Kenya.
The new Sierra Leonean managers were roundly applauded as each of read their respective brief acceptance messages and pledged to work assiduously to maximize on the gains and legacies left behind by both Tony and Angela.
Most staff at the meeting agreed that while Tony and Angela’s absence would be felt, they are confident that with collaborative effort, love, respect and united vision, the work of Tony and Angela which took AYV to such a lofty height is an incentive and an additive for all AYV staff to put their shoulder to the wheel and disprove and discard the false notion that Sierra Leoneans cannot be good managers.
