The FiBank Mobile Application has been unveiled at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown past weekend. The new Application which was unveiled by Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan will provide convenient access to financial and non-financial transactions by the bank’s account holders using their mobile phones and these includes view account balances and most recent transactions, make transfers into accounts within the bank, make transfers to account holders at any commercial bank in Sierra Leone using a BBAN and send money to anyone in Sierra Leone without a bank account via their mobile phones to be collected on any of the bank’s 17 Branches and 9 Cash Points nationwide.
The thrust of this model is to encourage the unbanked to a structured formal system of conducting financial transactions. Every mobile alert customer will be mandated to open bank accounts with zero balances and persuaded to save and ultimately be migrated into a formal way of conducting individual or business transactions. See page 8 for official speech delivered by Dr. Hasiatu G Jalloh, Managing Director/CEO of FIBank in Sierra Leone.
