ACC Sensitizes Western Rural Beneficiaries on the Grievance Redress Mechanism

Beneficiaries of the Social Safety Net (SSN) Project in Charlotte and No.2 River communities, on the 7th and 12th July 2017 respectively, have been sensitized by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the issues relating to the SSN project and the grievance redress component (GRM) which is integral to the success of the project implementation. The Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) of the Social Safety Net (SSN) Project is funded by the World Bank and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

In each of the engagements, Head of Outreach Unit, ACC, Glennis Kaitibi explained the concept of the GRM in the SSN Project. Mrs. Kaitibi noted that the ACC is spearheading the GRM aspect of the Project, to ensure a transparent and accountable scheme. She underscored that, the SSN Project aims at improving the livelihoods of the extremely poor and vulnerable people, emphasizing, for the success and continuity of the project, beneficiaries have important roles to play which includes reporting corruption related issues within the project to the ACC.

Mrs. Kaitibi highlighted the following concerns which SSN beneficiaries are to report on, such as, extortion, bribery, deceased beneficiaries’ replacement. She discouraged the beneficiaries from using SSN money for traditional ceremonies like “bondo”, paying it for summons in courts and carousing. Rather, she encouraged listeners to prioritize health, education, nutrition, farming, and commerce which will enhance and transform their livelihoods.

Communications Officer, ACC, Margaret Jones implored beneficiaries to always call on the mobile free lines: 077 985 985/077 986 986 and Airtel 161. The crusader admonished beneficiaries to avoid malicious reporting.  Ms. Jones stressed on the protection of whistle blowers and the reward scheme to genuine informants for which convictions are secured in the High Court of Sierra Leone.

Speaking to beneficiaries, Public Education Officer, Junisa Sankoh spoke on the DFID sponsored Pay No Bribe (PNB) campaign, which focuses on bribery and petty corruption in key public service delivery MDAs. He also encouraged beneficiaries to report any form of bribery through the 515 free line on all networks or the PNB website: or on the mobile application in Krio, Themne and Mende.
