The three accused persons are facing Forty Six Counts Charge ranging from Conspiracy to Larceny by Servant contrary to the Criminal Procedure Act of the laws of Sierra Leone and that the particulars of offence state that three accused persons allegedly conspired to steal from the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company One Hundred Thirty Seven drums of Gully and Argina oil valued at Nine Hundred Sixty Million, Six Hundred and Twenty thousand Leones.
Led in evidence by the police prosecutor, ASP Dunia, the witness who is also the Deputy Director General of the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company, John Amara Kabbia intimated the court that, he has worked for the company for nineteen years and recognized all accused in the dock.
John Amara Kabbia further intimated the jam-packed court that the first accused, Umaru B. Kanu is the Assistant Accountant attached to the Management Accountant in the Finance Department of the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company and that the accused normally collates data on activities for the Management Accountant.
According to the witness, he also recognized the second accused, Alimamy Kanu as a Store Keeper and the third accused, John Garrettee as a staff of the Payroll Department but was transferred from Lungi Power Station to the Black Hall Road Power Station in the east of the country’s capital, Freetown.
The witness explained that, he vividly recalled 6th July and sometime in September 2015 and that between those dates, the Acting Director General of the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company, Dennis Garvey informed him that the company’s just concluded Internal Audit Report had unraveled that Two Hundred and Ninety Eight drums of diesel and lubricants had gone missing at the company store at Black hall Road in Freetown.
He said that he was also instructed by the company’s Acting Director General, Dennis Garvey to visit the company store at Black Hall Road in other to assess and collate a comprehensive data on the company goods and that he was advised to informed higher authorities about the alleged theft case at company’s warehouse,
He went on to state that the following day he instructed officials at the Black hall Road Power Station to inform the second accused, Alimamy Kanu and the third accused John Garettee to report at his office at the Kingtom Power Station, but that he was told that the accused persons did not come to work on that day and that he also made several efforts to contact the accused persons on their mobile phones but they could not be reached.
The witness told the court that because the first accused, Umaru Kanu willingly went to the Criminal Investigation Department upon invitation whist the second and the third accused are yet to be seen, the acting Director General, he disclosed, instructed him to report the matter at the Criminal Investigation Department on Pademba Road in Freetown. The first accused was represented by lawyer H.A Cole, the second accused, Julian Cole and third accused was represented by J.b. Jenkins Jonston Snr. The matter was adjourned to Wednesday 7th Ocober 2015.
