The good news is that, the front line of the Judiciary is now saturated with a barrage of “anti-graft gladiators”; with one mind, one purpose and shared values. The synergy is re-energized, by the fact that people who have graduated from the anti-graft academy; are now at the mainstream of the judicial outfit.
The appointment of a committed woman, Justice Miatta Samba, who was ACC Chief Prosecutor as High Court Judge, is considered a big boost. Additionally, the erstwhile Director of Intelligence, Investigations and Prosecutions of ACC, Hon. Justice Reginald Fynn was promoted to serve as Justice of the Court of Appeal. Recently, another seasoned ACC prosecutor Abdul Rahman Mansaray Esq. was elevated as High Court Judge. Being another guru in the anti-graft fight, Mr. Mansaray will certainly dispense justice dispassionately.
Above all, the current Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Hon. Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara was the Commander in Chief of the Anti-Corruption Commission’s brigade. The existing relationship between ACC and the Judiciary therefore, is further strengthened; for once a soldier is always a soldier.
Invariably, the appointment of Ady Macauley Esq. as Commissioner of the ACC will cement the already bilateral ties between the ACC and the judiciary in the dispensation of justice, especially within the anti-corruption context. Commissioner Macauley is recognized as a significant personality to have contributed considerably to the successes scored by the Commission. In 2014 alone, ACC secured a 100% conviction, quiet apart from the billions of Leones recovered since 2008.
With people who have been in the business of fighting corruption for several years and who have effectively familiarized with the 2008 Anti-Corruption Act, within the judiciary is indeed a significant boost. Therefore, ACC and the Judiciary will continue to see themselves as twin brothers pursuing a common enemy, which is corruption.
These institutions-the court and ACC, working in unison will actualize the demise of corruption in this nation; putting an end to impunity, the law will take its course, justice will be served and the rule of law upheld.
