The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Lahai Lawrence Leema, on Tuesday, 15thJanuary, 2019, officially launched the National Inmates Identity Management Systems for the Sierra Leone Correctional Service.
The project is funded by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) and was launched at Hill Valley Hotel, Freetown.
“We will secure funds for the construction of the university through the Economic Community of West African States and they will send a feasibility team to Sierra Leone. There are a lot of processes involved before the final construction begins, so the construction will take time. After its completion, this university will help to improve the skills of our children and other children around the country,” said the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Professor Aiah Gbakima.
Ambassador Anthony Navo Jnr has been awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Entertainment Awards. The award was presented to the Ambassador by the CEO of Lake Entertainment, Alhaji K. Tarawally.
The award is in recognition of the “immeasurable” contribution to the entertainment industry, especially the establishment of the country’s first entertainment television channel that exclusively focuses on promoting entertainers and entertainment.

Heads of various national and international non-government organizations (NGOs and INGOs) are of the opinion that if the new policy called Development Cooperation Framework becomes law, “it would specifically kill NGOs and INGOs” operating in Sierra Leone.

Hawa Bangura, a Sierra Leonean woman tried and found guilty of human trafficking, will have to spend eight years of her life in a Liberian prison.
She was sentenced on Thursday, January 17, 2019 by Presiding Judge Roosevelt Willie when he rendered the final judgment in the human trafficking case involving Defendant Bangura who has been detained at the Monrovia Central Prison since her arrest on November 30, 2017.
