A motor mechanic, Lamrana Bah has been incarcerated at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown, by Santigie Bangura presiding over the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 for Obtaining Money by False Pretences.
The Particulars of Offence stated that the accused person obtained the sum of five million Leones from lawyer Mohamed Sahid Sesay on the pretext of securing him one gear box, which never materialized.
Accused person Lamrana Bah allegedly obtained the said amount between the dates of 1st February, 2017 and 30th May, 2017 in Freetown.
The one count charge of Obtaining Money by False Pretences preferred against the accused person negates section (32) sub section (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916. He pleaded guilty to the offence preferred on him.
Inspector I.G. Fofanah is prosecuting. Magistrate Santigie Bangura adjourned the matter to Monday 21st May, 2018.
Alhaji Dauda Bangura, Martin Alecious Doko, Joseph Ishmael Toronka and Bassem Hassan, on Wednesday 16th May, 2018 re-appeared before Santigie Bangura presiding over the Freetown Court No. 1, for allegedly committing very grave criminal offences.
The charge sheet read in court indicated that all the accused persons conspired to commit a felony; store break-in, larceny and receiving stolen goods on 27th February, 2018, contrary to the Criminal Procedure Act of Sierra Leone.
The Sierra Leone Police Force has opened investigations into a stampede which took place at the Siaka Steven Stadium in Freetown during past Saturday’s inauguration ceremony of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, resulting to death of at least one person and the injury of many others.
Some arrests have been made but no one has been charged so far, a police statement said.
President Julius Maada Bio has stated that he will be relinquishing the ceremonial role of Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone in 2019.
According to President Bio the intention is to establish a university system that employs its own leadership as chancellors and vice chancellors with distinguished and proven records of higher education leadership and significant international clout and contacts (funding and research networks).
